Adult Leukemia and Camp Lejeune

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Leukemia is cancer of the body's blood-forming tissues, including the bone marrow and the lymphatic system.”  The Mayo Clinic also says some forms of leukemia are more common in children, but many adults who lived on the Camp Lejeune military base or in the surrounding area in Jacksonville, North Carolina between the years 1953-1987 saw themselves and their adult loved ones develop leukemia. 

Sadly, there is no cure for leukemia.  After treatment, people living with leukemia may go into states of remission, but there is always a risk of leukemia recurring.
